As an Event Planner, I run into many different obstacles that could have been avoided by simply communicating with my clients and coworkers. I know what you are thinking- well that’s not rocket science, we all know communication is key in the workplace but, you would be very surprised what a small meeting with your coworkers/clients can achieve. Over the past couple semesters at ODU studying communications I have learned that there are so many kinds of communication, whether it be nonverbal or verbal communication, it will go a long way in the end. Working with a small team on event days, it is very important that everyone is on the same page when overseeing someone’s very special day. So, I always recommend doing a team meeting where you will get together and talk about all the details for that night’s event. This is crucial because sometimes someone might have information that another team member might not know about, and you always want to make sure everyone is on the same page and understands all the directions. No one can read minds-although, that would be so helpful working with all women in a small office. So, I always recommend doing a quick 10 to 15 meeting before setting up of the event starts to communicate everything that needs to be said and all directions are given to the team members.
